Amex to Allow Delta-Branded Cardholders to Borrow Travel Rewards Miles
Let’s say you want to plan an epic trip to Spain and you have loads of credit card outlets , but you juuuuuuust hesitate to fly. American Express recently launched a solution: what they call “Fly Now, Earn Later.”
The program is only available on Amex cards in conjunction with Delta SkyMiles. In short, it is an increase in the number of bonus miles. This is how it works, according to the site:
Log in to your account to find out in advance how many miles you are eligible for and choose the amount that is right for you. Within a six-month period, any remaining miles on your Fly Now, Earn Later balance will be debited from your card account at a rate of USD 0.025 per mile.
This is a better option than buying points directly because it allows you to reimburse those points through future purchases. Of course, if you haven’t paid back enough, you can pay for it later. According to The Points Guy, the rate is 2.5 cents per mile, nearly double the cost of Delta Skymile (1.2 cents).
This is a targeted offer, so if you have an Amex card co-created with Delta, log in to your account, go to the Benefits section and see if an offer is available.
