Duolingo, a Language Learning App, Now Teaches Korean
Duolingo recently added an excellent Japanese language curriculum to their app, and now they are complementing it with another great Korean language course. Good time to get interested in the East Asian language!
The Korean course, which just launched today, offers all the kanji, vocabulary and pronunciation lessons you would expect from a full Duolingo course. This is a great starting point if you are interested in the Korean language and can be learned for free (with ads). Like the previous Japanese course, Korean has been around for a long time. Masato Hagiwara, Senior Software Engineer and Research Fellow at Duolingo, wrote in an email:
“Asian languages are the hottest new courses among Duolingo users and fans. There is a huge demand among our users in the West for learning Asian languages with an emphasis on Japanese, Chinese and Korean. Thus, the addition of these languages represents a great opportunity for Duolingo to grow in our main English-speaking markets. After launching Japanese earlier this year, it quickly became the 4th most popular course on our platform, which is very impressive considering that other courses have had to develop over the years. ”
Korean became the second East Asian language on the platform, with about 215,000 people on the waiting list. And due to the high demand for symbolic languages, Duolingo plans to launch a Mandarin Chinese course by the end of the year. That said, if East Asian languages aren’t right for you, Android police are reporting that Duolingo will soon launch a Klingon language course for Star Trek fans sometime in September. Attract!
