This Is How You Should Collect Your Burger, Emoji Be Damned
People take their food emoji very seriously, so there is quite a bit of buzz on the internet as writer Thomas Backdahl tweeted the following:
In fact, the tweet caused such confusion that Google CEO Sundar Pichai said he would “drop everything” to fix the problem if “people could agree” on how to assemble the burger. (So it may not happen.)
To be honest, I was pretty outraged by Google’s configuration. Putting cheese under the cutlet is simply stupid. Everyone knows that cheese should be placed on top of the meat while it is still hot on the grill to ensure proper melting age. Plus, putting a slice of dairy under an already greasy burger will result in a too soft and moist bottom bun.
However, Apple’s emojis are also not entirely correct. While I appreciate the effort to ensure that the bottom bun does not ooze from the proper placement of the greens, it can lead to fat accumulation in the lettuce valleys, which is terrible. Plus, the whole point of the salad is to give it texture, so it’s not worth drying with hamburger fat. Therefore, fold the cheeseburger correctly (from top to bottom): bun, lettuce, tomato, cheese, cutlet, bun. (Which, oddly enough, is Microsoft’s burger configuration.)
