How to Get Amazon to Stop Displaying Your Browsing History
Every time you visit Amazon, the site shows you some of the most recent items you’ve viewed. The idea is that if you see that shirt, frying pan, or epic romance again, you might decide to bite the bullet and make a purchase. In theory, this is a normal idea, but when the last item you looked at turns out to be a gift that you research for a loved one or something else that you would rather not broadcast to the world you were viewing on the site, the tracking function may be a little problematic.
If you don’t want Amazon to track your shopping habits (or you need to make small holiday purchases at a low level), you can turn off this feature so that Amazon can no longer track you. Of course, there are other ways to do this, but this solution is built into the Amazon site.
If you like tracking (sometimes I find it helpful to find exactly what I was looking for again), then you can also go in and remove individual items from our purchase history so that the surprise gift does not appear in the results. and spoil your gift.
Here’s how to do it:
- Sign in to your Amazon account.
- Click on Accounts & Lists at the top of the page and select Your Recommendations from the drop-down menu.
- Select “Your Browsing History” at the top of the next page.
- On the right you will see “Manage History”, click on it to open a button to turn browsing history on or off, there is also a button to delete all items.
If you would like to remove individual items, you can do so by clicking the Remove button below that item in your story.
That’s all. If you clear the cookies in your browser, the tracking will be tracked again by default, so you will have to do it over and over again. When it comes to hidden holiday shopping, this should definitely come in handy.
