Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video offer many great horror movies for your enjoyment, but sometimes you just want the classics. These are all old school favorites available right now.

Hellraiser

This supernatural 1987 horror film was written and directed by Clive Barker. It follows criminal Frank Cotton, who is resurrected after opening a door to another dimension and being torn to pieces.

Hellbound: Hellraiser 2

It continued in 1988, “Hellraiser” was filmed Tony Randall (Clive Barker, executive producer and wrote the story). You will see the origins of Pinhead, who was once a British military officer named Elliot Spencer, but is now a cenobite or former human who turned into hellish creatures.

Jaws

Someone might not consider this classic 1975 Steven Spielberg horror movie, but it’s scary as hell. It follows the story of a giant shark attacking beach goers on Amity Island.

Sixth Sense

Supernatural thriller 1999 directed by M. Night Shyamalan, about a little boy who can see dead people. You probably already know the twist, but it’s still great.

The legend of the house of hell

Directed by John Hough, this classic 1973 British horror film follows Dr. Lionel Barrett exploring Belasco’s haunted house.

Children of the corn

This 1984 film was directed by Fritz Kirsch and is based on a short story by Stephen King. The story follows a dark entity called “The One Who Walks Behind the Rows” who forces all the children in the city to kill adults to ensure a good corn crop.

Craft

This 1996 film directed by Andrew Fleming follows a group of teenage girls who use witchcraft for their own ends. They quickly realize that they have made a terrible mistake.

Wes Craven’s new nightmare

Written and directed by Wes Craven, this action-packed slasher film follows the classic Freddy Krueger horror film that haunts the real-life cast and crew of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Silence of the Lambs

This 1991 horror-thriller directed by Jonathan Demme features the iconic cannibal serial killer Hannibal Lecter. Clarice Starling needs his help to find another serial killer known as “Buffalo Bill”.

American werewolf in London

A 1981 horror comedy directed by John Landis. He follows two young Americans who were attacked by a werewolf while visiting England. At the time, the film had such good special effects that it won the first Academy Award for Best Makeup.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Directed by Don Siegel, this sci-fi horror film follows an alien invasion. Alien plant spores falling to Earth can create a duplicate of a replacement copy, so you won’t do that to someone who has already been captured.

This remake of Philip Kaufman’s 1956 film follows a very similar plot, but is considered one of the best film remakes ever.

Amityville Horror

This supernatural horror movie from 1979 was directed by Stuart Rosenberg and is based on the 1977 book of the same name. This is the first of many films based on the real life of the Lutz family and their horrific time in the house where the massacre took place a year earlier.

Arachnophobia

Faculty

Directed by Robert Rodriguez, this teenage horror film from 1998 follows typical high school students who discover that their teachers are in fact aliens.

Night of fear

Tom Holland directed this 1985 classic about a teenager who discovers that his next door neighbor is a vampire. To stop him, he enlists the help of a TV show host who once played the vampire hunter in the movies.

Drop (1988)

This 1988 film directed by Chuck Russell is a remake of the 1958 original. We are talking about a giant drop, similar to an amoeba, which devours and dissolves everything that comes its way.

One of the most iconic American horror films of all time, this 1974 film directed by Tobe Hooper follows a group of friends facing dire cannibals. It was sold to be based on a true story, but Leatherface was actually based on the real-life killer Ed Heine.

Pumpkinhead

This dark 1988 fantasy film was the directorial debut of special effects artist Stan Winston. It is about a father who wants revenge on the teenagers who killed his son with the help of a local witch.

House on Sorority Row

Another typical slasher movie that epitomizes the 80s horror scene. This movie, directed by Mark Rosman in 1983, takes place in a dormitory where girls are killed after one of their jokes went wrong.

Prom

Directed by Paul Lynch and starring Leslie Nielsen and Jamie Lee Curtis. This 1980 slasher film follows some high school students at their prom being targeted by a mysterious assassin.

The last man on earth

In this 1964 sci-fi horror film, Vincent Price plays one of the last living people on Earth after the arrival of the vampires. It is based on the novel I Am Legend by Richard Matheson.
