Photograph Your Child’s Stuffed Animal on Work Trips
When you have young children, it can be difficult to travel frequently for work (although at times it’s pure bliss, amyrit?). One father named Hunter found a pleasant way to communicate with his daughter while he was away.
In Winnie, a parenting social networking app, he writes that before leaving, his daughter lends him one of her smaller toys , a fish with shiny fins. Then, when he travels, he sends her pictures of fish that are “having a good time” with him. “It gives her an idea of what I’m doing away from her and gives us another ‘connection’ beyond phone calls / FaceTime,” Hunter writes.
Here are some pictures of the fish on the adventure.
The father adds that while attending a business conference, he photographs his plush toy on stage “to remind her that one day she can be there if she wants to.”
Other ways to ease separation anxiety between work and travel is to leave special notes or other surprises for your child in easy-to-find places (such as in a lunchbox, by the sink, or in a shoe), send a note as you read the story before bed. and just be really involved and connected when you return immediately. In Tim Ferriss ‘s blog, a father named John Helzel recommends playing the 10-Minute Boss game to quickly reconnect with his kids. He explains how it works: “When you get home, take out your iPhone, set a timer for 10 minutes and say, ‘Now you will be the boss for the next 10 minutes,’ and see what happens.” Your kids will love your return.
