How to Change Your Brain With Mindfulness, With Daniel Goleman

Mindfulness has a moment. In particular, the case in point: the hashtag #mindfulnessinamerica currently popular on Twitter, through Mindfulness in America conference, which takes place during the set of words. But even before Jewel and Anderson Cooper joined forces , meditation (and especially mindfulness meditation) was gaining popularity thanks to applications such as Headspace and research touting the long-term effects of mindfulness on the mind and body. But are these apps really as effective as serious meditation workouts? And do the results of these studies have any basis in fact?

Daniel Goleman, co-author of Altered Traits: Science Shows How Meditation Changes Your Mind, Brain, and Body, joins us to discuss these issues. Dan is a psychologist and science journalist known for his many books on emotional intelligence, including the best-selling book Emotional Intelligence . In Altered Traits, he and co-author Richard Davidson reviewed thousands of published studies of mindfulness and determined which data we should look out for and which we should ignore as hype. They also reveal the latest findings from Davidson’s own lab: data that indicate what the future of mind training should be like.
