How to Install Kodi on an Amazon Powered Fire TV Edition
Amazon Fire TV streaming devices and semi-legal Kodi media player software have been a popular combination for years. With that in mind, you might want to look at one of those new Fire TV Editions from Element or Westinghouse that have the company’s TV operating system out of the box.
But before making a purchase, it’s worth checking to see if Kodi works as easily on these TVs as it does on the Amazon Fire Stick. Fortunately, yes, although the installation process is slightly different from what you’re used to.
What is Cody?
If you’ve never heard of Kodi or don’t know what it is, here’s a quick overview: Kodi is open source software that runs on everything from Raspberry Pi to Android (which runs the Amazon Fire TV software). Kodi makes it easy to play your own movies, TV shows, and other media on just about any device. It also supports a wide variety of plugins that offer access to torrent movies, live streaming, and even let you play older video games.
This is where Kodi sometimes gets in trouble, and this is why you can’t just download it from the Amazon app store like you normally would. But that hasn’t stopped people from finding other ways to run the software on their Fire TV devices, and these new TVs are no exception.
How to install Kodi on Fire TV Edition
One of the most common ways to get Kodi on a Fire TV device is with ES File Explorer, but it won’t work on these new TVs. After discovering that the old method was inappropriate, Streaming Advisor tried several other methods that might get the job done.
The first thing you need to do is download an app called Downloader from the Amazon app store. We use it because it has a built-in browser that you will navigate through until the end of the process.
Once Downloader is installed and ready, open it and go to kodi.tv. Select the version of Kodi for Android. On the next screen, click on the 32-bit option and download it. When it’s done (it may take a few minutes depending on your internet speed), click “Install” and you’re done.
If that doesn’t work, Streaming Advisor has a couple more suggestions. Watch them in the video below, which also describes the process described in this article.
