Best IPhone X Cases to Protect “The Most Fragile IPhone Ever” by Apple
The iPhone X was released just a few days ago, but has already been called “the most fragile iPhone in history.” A series ofSquareTrade tests revealed that the iPhone X screen shattered after being dropped six feet, which also resulted in a malfunctioning display.
It’s worth keeping in mind that SquareTrade makes money selling warranties for smartphones and other devices, so the company definitely has a lot to win by convincing people that the iPhone X is particularly prone to damage. That said, given that Apple’s latest iPhone has the largest screen and glass back, it’s probably a good idea to invest in a case to keep your new phone safe.
Here are five solid security options for your iPhone X that are cheaper than Apple’s or SquareTrade’s protection plans .
Nomad Durable Case ($ 44.95)
Nomad has been making great smartphone accessories for years thanks to the combination of thoughtful design and high quality materials. The company has a full line of iPhone X cases to choose from, but if drop protection is your priority, a durable case is probably your best bet.
The Rugged model has a thick polycarbonate bezel to protect your iPhone X, and the back is covered in leather that should age well with use. It’s designed to withstand drops of up to 10 feet and supports wireless charging.
Totallee iPhone X Slim Case ($ 16.99)
If you prefer a phone case that doesn’t get as much attention, Totallee is your best bet. The company’s new iPhone X case adds just 0.02 inches to the device, so it’s barely noticeable. It’s also available in a variety of colors from jet black to green, and comes with a two-year warranty.
Totallee doesn’t say if the case supports wireless charging for the iPhone X, but given how thin it is, it probably won’t hurt. The company also doesn’t specify what kind of drop protection it offers, but notes that the accessory is primarily designed to protect your phone from scratches, bumps and scuffs. So, your first concern is dropping your new iPhone, you may need something more durable.
X-Doria Defense ($ 29.95)
X-Doria offers a wide range of iPhone X cases designed for protection. Defense is in the middle of its lineup, offering a combination of soft rubber, durable polycarbonate and aluminum to protect your new phone from drops. It comes in black or red and supports wireless charging.
X-Doria Defense is certified to withstand drops of up to 10 feet. The company also offers slightly more expensive Defense Lux , which adds treated metal around the edges for added protection, at a price tag of $ 34.95.
Pad and Quill Bella Fino Wallet ($ 89.95)
Pad and Quill creates beautiful smartphone accessories from classic materials such as leather and wood. I personally lean towards this wallet case that covers your iPhone X with leather and adds multiple pockets for storing cards and cash. Expensive, but attractive and functional; supports wireless charging; has a thin profile of 0.28; The leather is guaranteed for 25 years.
The Bella Fino case covers both the front and back of your iPhone, so it should be protected from most drops. The company will also add a rubber case for the iPhone X for added protection against drops and edges, although it doesn’t specify how high it is safe to fall.
Apple Cases ($ 39- $ 99)
Apple manufactures a wide variety of iPhone X cases , including plain plastic cases , leather models, and folios . They cost a little more, but have the added benefit of being developed by the same company as the actual iPhone.
The silicone iPhone X case fits snugly around the device to protect it without adding extra bulk. Apple has also added a microfiber inner lining to reduce impact damage, while a silicone outer surface is easy to grip with one hand to prevent falls. However, the company does not indicate the level of fall protection.
The Apple Leather Case offers a similar customization, but with a slightly sturdier leather exterior and the same microfiber lining. Again, there are no specific levels of fall protection, so if you have problems holding your phone this might not be the case.
For extra protection (plus card and cash pockets), check out Apple’s Leather Folio. A leather flap covering the front will protect the display from minor drops, although you should consider looking for something more durable if you’re the type of person who drops their smartphone a lot.
