When and How to Transfer Indoor Plants Inside

Temperatures drop – finally, convulsively – closer to winter, so it’s time to think about when to bring potted plants. Okay, this part is simple: bring in the plants when the temperature drops to 45 ° F at night. But before you do that, make sure you are doing it right.

Apartment Therapy has a good checklist to make sure your plants – both your home and other plants already in it – are doing well with this transition:

  • Check for bugs and diseases. You don’t want to extend this to the plants in your home.
  • Make the transition gradual. For the first few days, add the plants overnight and then take them outside during the day.
  • Prepare your space. Find a sunny spot for plants that are accustomed to getting sunlight. Maybe even wash the windows.
  • Only bring prosperous ones. As Apartment Therapy says, “If they already have problems outdoors, it will only get worse indoors.” Otherwise, it might be time to let go.
