Happy Hour of Three Ingredients: Beautiful and Elegant Elizabeth Taylor
Happy last weekend in 2017 and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. Everything on New Years Eve is supposed to be pretty and vibrant, so this week we’re sipping on the dangerously beautiful Elizabeth Taylor, named after the purple star for its sweet purple hue.
There are many variations of this sparkling cocktail, but the two main ingredients are crème de violet with floral notes and a kind of sparkling setting. I love adding gin to mine because I love adding gin to everything, but be careful, these little kids have a great ability. To make this beautiful flute potion, you will need:
- 3/4 ounce gin
- 3/4 oz purple cream
- About 3 1/2 ounces of some sparkling wine
Add gin and purple cream to a champagne glass, stir a little and pour over chilled champagne. Sip and resist the urge to garnish; to do so would be to gild the violet.
