How to Use Facebook’s New Snooze Feature

A few years ago, my ex-boyfriend got married. Our breakup was friendly and we remained friends with the same people. This meant that when it came time for his wedding weekend, my Facebook feed was filled with photos of his rehearsal dinner, wedding, and reception. Yes, I was happy for him, but not happy enough. I wanted to see (literally) a thousand photos of a holiday event that I did not participate in.

This week Facebook introduced a new repeat feature that lets you temporarily mute people or pages in your feed. This means that I could disconnect all my friends who have visited big bash for several days without unsubscribing from them or removing all of my friends. Nobody knows you did it, and after the snooze period is over, everything will return to normal, so you don’t have to remember to fix it.

To activate it, click the three dots in the upper-right corner of a message from a friend or related page, and then select the “Snooze for 30 days” button from the drop-down menu.

The snooze period is 30 days, which isn’t exactly ideal for my wedding scenario, but it’s great when your ex enters this new relationship for the first time, or your friend has a baby and can’t stop posting 50 photos a day, or your friend has puppy and can’t stop posting 100 photos a day.
