How to Turn Netflix Movies Into Audiobooks
Sure, you’ve heard of the binge drama on Netflix, but what about binge listening?
Netflix has a category of programs for which it offers audio descriptions where a voiceover explains to you what the characters are doing in a scene. With it, you can listen to shows rather than watch them, essentially turning them into something like an audiobook or podcast that you can stream while you are out walking or when you go to bed at night trying to fall asleep, Reddit user A_Alexandre points out .
Audio Description is actually a category in the Netflix app. This is the last category right after thrillers.
And there are a decent amount of options. There are currently about 50 titles available offering audio subscriptions, many of these TV series with a lot of episodes. The latest season of Stranger Things is available with audio descriptions like Boss Baby, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Mad Men, The Good Place, Daredevil, Finding Dory and more.
You turn on audio description in the same menu where you usually turn on subtitles. For movies and TV shows where this feature is available, this will be the last option, labeled “English – Audio Description”.
I’ve tried this on a few shows and the descriptions are actually pretty good. Parks and Recreation may have just become the soundtrack to my morning dog walks.
