Wells Fargo Customers Should Verify Their Bank Accounts
Wells Fargo’s online bill payment system experienced a “glitch” on Wednesday night, which resulted in some payments being processed twice, the company said . The issue was reportedly fixed by Thursday morning.
Some Twitter users said they were billed twice for purchases as well as ATM overdrafts, leading to overdrafts for some. Others said they were unable to make purchases, including grocery purchases, due to an outage.
Wells Fargo did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but Steve Carlson, vice president of Wells Fargo Corporate Communications, told KCCI.com that ” any fees or charges that may be incurred as a result of this error will be taken into custody.”
In a situation like this, there is little you could do to prevent it, but if you are a Wells Fargo customer, check your accounts. In general, however, you should set up alerts through your bank so you know where your money is going.
There are many different types of alerts you can choose from for accounts and cards (and receive via text messages, push notifications, or email). You can decide if you only want to receive them when a certain amount of money is spent, when the due date is due, when you get close to your credit limit, or you can choose to renew your account daily.
Some other warnings, according to Creditcards.com , include:
- Suspicious transaction
- Transaction without presenting a card (especially important for fraud protection because a fraudster just needs your card number to try and use it on many occasions)
- Gasoline transaction (according to creditcards.com, “gas stations are another thief hotspot”)
- International deal
You can also use a budget app like Digit and Qapital, which will send you updates as well.
If you subscribe to receive text or push notifications, you need to download your bank’s app. Here’s where to sign up for Wells Fargo’s .
