Run Away From Home in the Morning Before You Work From Home

When you work from home, you can easily get out of bed in the morning and get to work right away. Start your work day while you are still trying to get the pussy out of your eyes.

You need to get out. Literally. Put on your shoes and leave the house. Do this every morning as soon as you get up. (If you’re as vain as I am, you can put on some lipstick first.)

Where you go doesn’t really matter. Mailbox? A cafe around the block? Is your staircase where you do 50 jumps? All good choices. But it is the return home and entry into the workplace that makes this ritual so rewarding. When you walk into an office with your body, even if that office is a tiny converted closet in your bedroom, your mind knows that this is work time.

Do what you need to do to run. Wake up early. Imagine your house is on fire. Get rid of the coffee or cream in the kitchen and force yourself to go out and have a drink. Set the alarm to play the Chariots of Fire theme song. Just go.

Then come back. Hello. Welcome to work.
