Use IFTTT to Find Cheap and Free Video Games on the Internet
If This Then That is great for everything from managing your savings to archiving your favorite songs to Spotify , but did you know you can also use it to find free video games? There are dozens of applets (the name IFTTT for any combination of triggers and actions used in the service) designed to help you keep track of game draws.
After MakeUseOf published an article on using IFTTT to find free games on the Internet, I started digging and found even more applets designed to keep track of the latest offers available. Here’s a quick guide to the amazing world of video games and IFTTT.
Free games
Free games can be found on almost any platform, and IFTTT can help you track them down. If you’re playing on PC, check out this applet that alerts you anytime someone posts a message on Reddit GameDeals with the word “free” in the title. You can also use applets to find free games for iOS and Android, and even indicate what types of games (racing, casual, sports, etc.) you are interested in.
Sony and Microsoft are also doing a great job of offering monthly free games on their PS4 and Xbox One consoles – provided you pay for a monthly subscription. Xbox fans: Check out these two applets to get notified when free games become available at the beginning of the month and again on the 16th . PlayStation owners should check out this app to be notified of the monthly free games release via PS Plus.
Discounted games
Assuming you’re willing to pay for discounted video games, there are a few more applets worth tweaking to make the most of If This Then That.
To keep up with all the latest Steam sales, use this applet, or try this one if you’re only interested in big discounts (80% or overkill). Nintendo fans can receive a notification every week when a “This Week in Nintendo eShop” email is sent to the company informing about new releases and special sales. Finally, this applet will inform you of all game discounts on Steam, Ubisoft or EA.
Keep track of your favorite games
Another tip from IFTTT for gamers. You can use the service to keep track of your favorite games so you don’t miss any updates. This Reddit post shows you how to create your own applet so you get notified whenever the official Twitter account for your game of choice makes an announcement. You can use it to keep up with popular online games like Overwatch and League of Legends , which often use social media to announce big changes.
