What Food Habit Would You Like to Get Rid Of?
Hello and welcome back toWhat’s Cooking? , an open thread where you can share your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes and opinions on all food related matters. This week I would like to talk about our bad habits and failures and see if we can help each other become better (or we could just revel in our addictions to garbage).
The month of 2018 has passed, and by now you’ve either made some real New Year changes or you’re back to your bullshit again. This extends to food and cooking, and unhealthy culinary habits are the hardest to break.
- What is your favorite processed, completely spoiled food that you enjoy better than homemade food? I’m sorry, but I love craft mac and cheese more than most homemade foods. Something about texture and taste triggers a specific part of my brain that cannot be readjusted.
- Do you have a daily habit that you can’t get rid of? I haven’t tried very hard to break it, but I don’t see myself ever giving up on Diet Coke. However, I don’t buy large sums for the home, so I limit them to one or two per day.
- Have you made any positive, healthy food or drink changes this year? I drank less, mostly because I went to the gym and was too tired and sick to go to the bar. I also found that exercise makes me want more vegetables and fruits, which is a nice bonus.
- What kind of meal planning or meal preparation work keeps you from eating like shit for a week? There are three items I have to keep in my apartment to prevent complete disagreement with the garbage life: hard-boiled eggs (fast protein), clementines (a fast-growing ingredient), and La Croix (the water I’ll drink).
- Do you watch TV while you eat? Yes, and that’s fine with me.
- Where do you most often eat? On the couch. Front of the TV. If I have a company, I sometimes eat at the table, depending on the company.
- Are you eating at your desk at work or trying to make a change of scenery? I don’t have a suitable table (I gave it away because I never used it), but I also do most of my work on the couch, so I think I eat at my table. Sometimes I eat while standing in the kitchen.
- Have you ever followed a diet change for a long time? What made it work? My work makes it difficult to stick to a strict diet, but I found that I eat better and fuller if I cook for other people, so I started to invite people to dinner more often.
As always, feel free to chat about anything that is indirectly related to our topic. If you’ve successfully quit the habit, tell us how you did it. If you have a habit that you need to break, ask for help. If you just want to show off that you are like a raccoon, I fully support that.
