Take a Few Steps Back From Siri When You Teach Him to Recognize Your Voice
The first thing you’ll want to do with any new iPhone is teach Siri to recognize your voice. It’s also a good idea to retrain the Apple AI Assistant if it’s giving you problems. Your first instinct is probably to hold your iPhone in your hand (or even up to your mouth) during your workout, but in reality, you’d better put the device down first and take a few steps back.
If you teach your iPhone to recognize “Hey Siri” from a few feet away, it’s more likely to work in real life situations when you don’t have the device in hand. This is great for the morning when your iPhone can sit on the nightstand to charge, or if you leave it on the kitchen counter while you cook.
This trick comes from Reddit user a_fancy_kiwi , who noticed that Siri only recognized their voice half the time. After retraining the AI from a short distance, it started to perform much better, regardless of whether their iPhone is on the other side of the room or right next to them.
If you’ve just unboxed a new iPhone, Apple will automatically guide you through the voice training process, but it’s also easy to retrain your old device. Just go to Settings, select General, and turn off Hey Siri. When you turn it back on, iOS will immediately be included in the training process. Tap Set Up Now and remember to step back from your phone a few steps before you start.
