How to Get a Secret Wedding Ring Through Airport Security

This is “proposal season” because such things exist. And if you’re planning on making a surprise offer on your next trip, you won’t want to show your wedding ring to your partner while you both go through airport security. So you need to pack carefully.
UK East Midlands Airport has a small system to make sure you and your partner are on separate security lines. Call them ( here is their number ) and they will give you a code word to tell the security staff.
It’s not so much fun in the US, where TSA keeps all major airports safe. A TSA spokesperson tells Lifehacker that there is no passcode, but you can easily get your ring through the security system without your partner seeing it. Here’s what they offer:
Keep it in your carry-on luggage
Do not leave the ring with you. A ring in your carry-on bag will not trigger a bag check, but a ring in your pocket can trigger an alarm and you will have to take it out in front of everyone.
TSA also advises against putting valuables in checked baggage, where they could be lost or stolen.
Pack conservatively
Do not put anything in your carry-on baggage that could trigger an alarm. Now is not the time to check the limits of the rules for files or liquids. If you have packed anything else that might cause your bag to be searched, remove it from the bag before taking the X-ray. This includes all of your electronics and everything heavy and metal.
None of this guarantees that TSA will not single you out for additional searches. Travel + Leisure invites you to add a note to the box in which you kept the ring.
