Donuts Are Better Than Muffins
Store-bought muffins are huge, full of sugar and calories. It makes them a dessert, a treat, a treat – and then you can eat something delicious instead, like a donut. Bonus: the donut probably has less sugar already.
Obesity specialist Yoni Friedhoff pointed this out in a tweet , and the numbers confirm: Dunkin Donuts has a chocolate-covered donut with 280 calories and 13 grams of sugar, and their blueberry muffin has 460 calories and 43 grams – that’s three times the sugar. … DD also offers reduced fat muffins, but is almost the same. (It has 10 grams of fat instead of 15, but it’s still far superior to a donut of 410 calories and 39 grams of sugar.)
The size of each treat contributes to the disparity: both are high in calories, but the cupcakes can be overwhelming. And if you think of them as healthy, consider that you may have been fooled. Bran, Blueberry, Oats, Flax – these words mean health, ”says Friedhoff. “Personally, I’m going to spend 500 calories on a treat, damn it tastes better than a cupcake.”
