Happy Hour of Three Ingredients: a Stroller Called “desire”
Happy weekend everyone, and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This week we are introducing a cocktail from Maggie Hoffman’s One Bottle Cocktail, a book that is very much in line with the aesthetic of this column.
Pioneered by Laura Bellucci of New Orleans, SoBou, this drink is a juicy fruity play on a stroller cocktail that we all know is very rippled. Good sweetened apricot jam is the key to getting this kid singing, so ditch the cheap stuff and indulge yourself. I love a good jam cocktail and this is a very good jam cocktail. To make it you will need:
- 2 ounces cognac
- 3 tablespoons of really good apricot jam
- 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice with a slice of lemon zest set aside (lemon counts as an ingredient).
Mix everything in a shaker with ice and shake until cool – Hoffman recommends about 12 seconds. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a chilled compartment glass and add the rind oil to the drink. If you feel like adding a little bitterness to your cocktail for more depth, you can. I won’t even tell anyone that you broke the three-ingredient rule.
