Girls Can Take Free Coding Workshops This Month at Microsoft Stores
While you can pass on some statistics to a girl about why she should consider a career in STEM, it is far more encouraging to hear from real women who are already doing the job. As the old adage goes, you can’t become what you can’t see.
This month, at Microsoft stores across the country, girls ages 11 to 18 can meet astronauts, pilots, and computer science executives – all women – who talk about how STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) has played a critical role in their travels. Free DigiGirlz events are dedicated to International Women’s Day and will run on selected Saturdays in March. Each will include a coding workshop.
See your local Microsoft store event calendar for details. You can choose a coding oriented program, space or aviation. There will be interactive discussions and Q&A where kids and teens can ask what it’s like to fly a military plane, work for NASA, or create a cool dragon fighting video game. And, perhaps, they will even see that they are following the same path.
