Men Makeup Guide for Beginners
Who said that men should not use cosmetics and other beauty products intended for women? With the help of a few nice people at the local makeup store (and my girlfriend), I found some items that even the most manly men can use discreetly and comfortably. Trust me, people only notice how good you look.
Exfoliating scrubs
There is nothing worse than crusty, flaky skin on your face. No, don’t find fault. And don’t wet your skin with lotion hoping it will disappear. This skin is dead and needs to be removed! Exfoliating scrubs will do the trick, so your moisturizers will really do something. A good scrub will also give your skin a pleasant glow to neutralize the dullness of your skin tone.
I tried two exfoliating scrubs, mostly made from natural ingredients. For my face, I used Fresh Sugar Face Polish, which is a mixture of brown sugar and strawberry seeds (smell good enough to eat). For the lips, I used Bite’s Agave Sugar Lip Scrub . They’re both very similar, so you’ll probably only be able to use one really good exfoliating scrub. Wash your face, use a scrub, rinse.
Moisturizing face cream and lip balm
Dude, moisturize your face. Moisturizers are scientifically proven to improve the appearance of your skin and help it cope better by serving as a barrier to the outside world . Moisturize at least once a day, but do it twice a day if you are more active or spend a lot of time outdoors. I have fairly fair skin, so I use a moisturizer that also includes a broad spectrum SPF 15 sunscreen, such as the Neutrogena Sunscreen Non- Fat Moisturizer . And after you use a lip scrub to get rid of all that dead skin, be sure to use a good moisturizing lip balm to make your lips look beautiful.
Primer or finishing powder
If you have a tendency to shine or your moisturizer enhances your radiance, a primer can even help you. This magical liquid smoothes the skin and reduces shine for a matte finish. It also reduces the appearance of pores if they attract too much attention. I chose a super popular primer tonal framework Photo Finish Foundation Primer from Smashbox, and it works fine. Apply to your T-zone and wherever you need a little relaxation.
A translucent finish powder similar to a primer in that it gives the skin a matte finish, hides pores and reduces shine. The downside is that it can be the most visible of the products here if you’re not careful. Over-application of powder will show that you have applied makeup, especially if you have hair on your face. I tried Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Invisimatte Blotting Powder and it was lovely and light. I could hardly say what I would wear.
Color corrector
I first learned about the magic of the color corrector in Netflix’s new version of Queer Eye . Nursing expert Jonathan Van Ness recommended something called a “green stick” to help improve the skin tone of one of the subjects on the show. The man’s skin had a harsh red tint, and a small green corrector dramatically reduced the redness. I also have reds on my skin, so I tried a green concealer at Sephora and it helped a little to even out my skin.
If you don’t have a red tint, a yellow corrector can help hide purple or other darker tones on tanned skin, orange hides dark spots on darker skin tones, peach blue or purple on light brown skin, lavender hides yellows and pinks. hides blue tones on fair skin. Talk to someone at a makeup store if you don’t know what skin tone you have. When you have the right color, apply lightly to any area where there are shades that need to be evened out, such as under the eyes or around the nose, and then blend with your finger or a pad.
Tone cream
Concealer is the most popular makeup item on this list. It completely hides your blemishes, evens out dark circles under the eyes and gives the skin an even tone in areas where your color is slightly different. The hardest part is figuring out your skin tone according to brand-specific color options. There is only one way to do this – go to the store and try them all on the back of your hand.
I ended up choosing Kat Von D’s Lock-it Concealer Creme because it is not too thick, lasts long, and does not act like paint and wrinkles (making it obvious that you are using concealer). It hid one of my spots perfectly. Just apply a little and then gently blend with your finger.
