Get Off the Couch and Start Running With the C25K App
iOS / Android: I hate running. I’ve always hated running. Every time I decide to (again) try running, I think about how much I would rather ride a bike, lift weights, or do anything else (besides squats). However, when I do run, I use the free C25K app to try and guide me towards longer, better runs.
As you probably guessed from the name, the C25K ( iOS , Android ) is designed to help you run 5km (in decent shape) off your couch (not in that shape) for eight weeks. The app is useless if you can’t run regularly for half an hour three times a week. However, as it tries to get you up to 5K, you gradually become familiar with the concept of running longer and longer distances – partly for your health, and partly so as not to give up on the first day when you realize how difficult it has to work. within 30 minutes without stopping.
What I love the most about the C25K is that its free version works great with the basics as you run. You’ll get a timer right at the center of your smartphone that counts down your set workout time, and you’ll receive audio updates – ideally through the headphones you use while jogging – to tell you when to switch between running and walking. Remember, you are learning to run 5K: first, you will mix light and regular exercises to get a full-fledged run without rest.
You can upgrade the app for $ 5 (iOS) or $ 3 (Android) to access its “professional” features, which include distance tracking, calorie tracking, and in-app ad removal. If you find you have a working error issue, this is a worthwhile purchase. However, when I started out, I didn’t really care about distance or calories; I just wanted to make sure I have a handy guide in my ear that tells me when to walk and when to run, and the C25k is perfect for that.
