How to Make Sure the Safety of a Budget or a Foreign Airline
Low cost airlines are a decent option for cheap travel, but they are also known for being inconvenient, they give you a penny for every little change, and now people are questioning the overall safety of these low cost flights. These four tips will help you choose a low-cost or foreign airline that meets all the necessary safety standards.
Look, it’s damn safe to fly . The likelihood that you were involved in the incident is incredibly small, and the likelihood that you will die in the specified event is even less. But when 60 Minutes recently pointed out that low-cost airline Allegiant had over 100 serious mechanical problems in two years (none of which were fatal), the question arose, “How safe are these low-cost airlines really?” Well, if they comply with certain safety regulations, they are basically as safe as any other airline. The trick is to find out which airline is doing it right. Travel writer Rosie Spinks of Quartz makes some recommendations :
- Check aircraft type and age : new aircraft will be safer and pilots will be newly trained in how to fly them safely upon delivery. Be wary of airlines and flights with older aircraft models such as MD-80, DC-9-40, DC-10, EMB-120 and 737-200, especially if you do a little research and find that they were second-hand purchases … hand from foreign carriers.
- Check the European Union Blacklist : This searchable list contains all airlines that are banned from operating in Europe. If you are not allowed to work there, it is probably best to avoid doing it elsewhere.
- Check the UN International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) scores : This organization checks the aviation authorities around the world and then gives them a score from 1 to 10 . Carriers with high scores are responsible for meeting safety standards, while carriers with lower scores may not be responsible.
- See if they’re affiliated with another airline : Any small airline, whether it’s a low-cost carrier in the US or a foreign company that does business with a larger US carrier, is likely to be fine. They must pass FAA security checks.
Keep in mind that many low cost and foreign airlines are perfectly safe – or at least as safe as the larger carriers. But if you want peace of mind, checking these four things should give you a better idea of how safe the airline really is. You can find more helpful information and tips at the link below.
