Watch Live Sports for $ 5 a Month With the New ESPN App
This week, ESPN unveiled ESPN +, its new subscription video service for streaming your favorite sporting events live for just $ 5 a month (or $ 49.99 a year).
Before you get too excited about this price: unlike some other streaming solutions that essentially offer a direct stream of content from their traditional channel, ESPN + is not intended to replace ESPN, but simply to complement it.
The service is built into the traditional ESPN app and allows you to watch all of the MLS matches out of the market, as well as live broadcasts such as the PGA Tour. NBA and NHL games will also appear in the app, but you can only watch one NBA or NHL game per day.
The service is also the only place where you can watch the 30×30 documentary series, and the platform will be home to several films that will be exclusive to the service, including The Last Days of the Knight , which premiered this weekend.
There isn’t much overlap between what you find on the network’s channels and what you find in the app, mainly to ensure that the app doesn’t harm ESPN’s broadcast business. ESPN + has free content from the traditional ESPN app, all ad-free at the beginning or end of the video. There will be live TV commercials.
It’s a bit of a tricky mix that can make it either great or bad, depending on what you really want to watch. To see if it’s right for you, ESPN offers a free 7-day trial. Right now, they have increased that time limit to 30 days, which should be enough to understand.
