Oops AR.It’s great to live in an era where we can use our smartphones to toss a giant dinosaur (orsleepy Snorlax ) into our real world.
I grin, but not without reason. When I first had the opportunity to showcase some augmented reality apps as a busy Apple employee, I was amazed at how simple most of them were – not technology as it takes a little wits to get AR to work properly, but execution. You’ve probably seen this if your favorite apps started adding fancy AR hooks that allow you to throw a character, house, car, bat, or whatever into your room, driveway, or toilet.
In other words, AR has opened up a lot of placement opportunities, but what about productivity? Yes, there are some apps that allow you to turn your smartphone into a portable tape measure (bless them), and you can certainly find all sorts of apps that will let you see how a new lamp, footrest or GODMORGON will look in your home. …
