Where to Find the Best Memorial Day Sales
Looking for deals this Memorial Day weekend? As usual, you’ll find good deals on home goods and appliances over long weekends, but you should avoid most tech products.
Julie Ramhold, consumer analyst at DealNews.com , notes that travelers can get up to 50% discounts on travel. “Memorial Day weekend is a good time to book a trip for early or mid-summer,” she told Kiplinger . This will be your last opportunity to secure great deals before the end of the summer.
Most of the other good deals are related to your home. Some retailers, such as Target, have already started their sales and have great deals on decorative furnishings such as lamps, rugs and throw pillows.
It’s also the perfect time of year to buy a new mattress (by the way, I bought my mattress on a Memorial Day sale a few years ago and it was a great deal) and all the sheets and pillows you need. Check out department stores like JC Penney and Sears.
You can also find home appliances on sale at places like Best Buy, Lowe’s, and Sears. Kiplinger says you can find things like microwaves, coffee makers, and refrigerators up to 40 percent off. More on this .
And to round out your home decor, places like Wayfair and Overstock.com will have big discounts on outdoor furniture (but not grills). This way you can decorate your terrace in front of the barbecue.
What to miss
Kiplinger notes that you may be skipping tech deals with Apple, as prices are likely to be lower at the end of the year.
You will also find better deals on school supplies, cars and summer clothes later this year.
And remember, you can usually sign up for sale notifications from your favorite retailers, so do so now if you’re in the market for a particular high-value item. And make sure you compare stores and see if the stores offer comparable prices.
