What Are You Feeding Your Mom This Sunday?

Hello and welcome back toWhat’s Cooking? , an open thread where you can share your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes and opinions on all food related matters. This weekend is Mom’s Day and I want to hear what you have in store for mothers in your life.

My mom is actually coming this weekend, which is great because we haven’t been together on Mother’s Day for a while. The Portland brunch scene is a hell of a landscape even on the coldest Sundays, so I’ll be cooking instead of going outside. Naturally, I want to hear what you have on the menu, and I have questions.

  • What kind of dishes will you cook? My mom asked for eggs Benedict, which I will make with my sous-vide immersion circulator and this recipe from ChefSteps . I also plan on using smoked salmon instead of Canadian bacon because my mom is worth it. Also, I just need the refrigerator to be full of cheese and fruit. My mom mostly eats once a day and grazes the rest of the time, and these are her favorite snacks.
  • If you have children, are you planning to involve them? I have no offspring, but I plan to have the dog entertain her while I cook.
  • What kind of drink will you serve the lady of honor? She does not drink during the day, so there is no mimosa, but I plan to treat her to an evening margarita.
  • Will dessert be involved? My mom doesn’t really like baked goods, but she loves chocolate, so I’ll get some fancy bars.
  • If you have a brunch, will it be sweet or savory? It’s not sweet, always and forever.
  • Will breakfast be served in bed? No, because my mom is not good at staying in bed and doing what is called “relaxing”.

As always, feel free to deviate from the above questions and add anything remotely related to our topic. Oh, and if you’re a celebrating mom, please describe your perfect Mother’s Day dinner in the comments below.
