Get Rid of Your Kids’ Artistic Clutter With Serving Tray

I’m a fan of dirty children’s art. My husband is gone. However, what lessens his anxiety when he sees our daughter squeezing food coloring into plasticine or marbling paper with shaving cream is that her work mostly focuses on trays. Yes, the same serving trays that party organizers can use to present a fine selection of jerky. I have found these to be ideal jobs for most of my child’s projects, be it painting, chalk drawing, or a tiny bead necklace. Whatever messes that happen during the process (and will happen) can be easily washed off in the sink, dishwasher or with a damp towel.

We use trays from Daiso , also known as the “Japanese dollar store”. They are big and cheap – I bought extra items when we invite other kids. If there is a Daiso near you, go there immediately. Otherwise, any dishwasher-safe, smooth baking sheet will work. Here’s a reasonably priced acrylic . I would not use box trays for painting and painting as the edges can get in the way.

Yes, your kids will still make a mess, but now it’s more of a corralled mess. And that’s what we can handle – for the sake of art.
