Three Ingredient Happy Hour: Aviation Simplified Cocktail
Happy weekend and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This week we are doing a modernized version of one of my favorite gin cocktails: aviation.
Most aeronautical recipes use gin, lemon, maraschino liqueur and crème de violet (or Creme Yvette), but these are too many ingredients for our purposes and I love maraschino too much to be overshadowed by another rather assertive liqueur. The dry cherry liqueur is surprisingly refreshing and has a slightly sweet note of bitter almond. When paired with gin and fresh lemon, these scents really shine, giving you a great summer sip. To make it you will need:
- 1 1/2 ounce London dry gin (although honestly you can use any gin you like. I made it from my pineapple gin and loved it).
- 3/4 oz Luxardo maraschino liqueur
- 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
Add everything to a shaker with ice and shake until too cold. Strain the drink into a glass compartment and try not to swallow it too quickly.
