Take Care of Your Cast Iron With Mister Bottle
Applying a thin layer of oil to the cast iron after cleaning is an important step in keeping it beautiful and functional. There is nothing wrong with pouring it straight out of the bottle, but you can overflow it and if you don’t wipe off the excess it will end up with sticky residue.
Lodge makes a set for this, but their fancy “Seasoning Spray” is really just canola oil in Mr. Mister does give you a lot more control over how much oil you use, which is especially useful when you are seasoning small cast iron babies, but there is no reason to pay around thirty dollars for this “kit.” Just get a seƱor bottle ( $ 10 here ) that can also be used for misting food, fill it with rapeseed oil, and season your favorite dishes with unparalleled grace and elegance (and just butter is enough).
To do this, wash the pan as much as it needs – soap and water will work – and wipe off any wet residue with a towel. Heat it on the stove to dry completely, then remove from heat, spray with mister and return to stove some more (until it starts to smoke a little). Wipe off the excess with a paper towel, let it cool completely and return (hopefully dry) home.
