Go for a Weekend With a Lemongrass Kangaroo

Happy weekend and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. Today I would like to introduce you to the kangaroo, which some (wrong) people call “vodka martini”.

You see, there is no vodka martini – martinis are made with gin – but this does not mean that a mixture of ice-cold vodka and dry vermouth is bad. This is actually a good thing, especially if you want to add some subtle refreshing aromas that might be overshadowed by juniper-rich gin. The original name of this cocktail was “Kangaroo” and I think we need to bring it back and usher in a new era in the cocktail bar world.

But you know me, I can never not do something, so I decided to add some lemongrass paste , which I bought for some reason a few weeks ago and then immediately forgot. To prepare this bouncy drink, you will need:

  • 2 1/4 ounce vodka
  • 3/4 ounce dry vermouth
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemongrass paste (or 1/2 teaspoon freshly chopped lemongrass)

Pour everything into a cocktail glass (or pint) filled with ice and stir until it becomes unpleasantly cold. Strain into a glass compartment through a fine sieve. Decorate nothing.
