Check Out These Cable TV Fees on Your Next Bill
According to Consumer Reports , the median annual TV bill has grown from $ 700 in 2000 to $ 1200 in 2017, and much of that increase can be attributed to all the egregious fees cable companies pay to your cable TV bill each month. …
To shed some light on exactly what cable companies charge users for, CR asked its members to submit their invoices as part of their “ What is the fee ?! program . Of all the cable companies, CR says it received the most complaints about Comcast Xfinity.
Here are some of these statistics for each CR, reported by hundreds of their members:
- Broadcast TV Fees: You will have to pay more for network access.
- Sports tax: the cost of regional sports events.
- HD Technology Fee: Most programming is now available in HD, however this fee remains.
- Set-top box / receiver fees : In some cases, you pay to rent a cable box and remote control.
- DVR Service: This is one of the biggest additional fees, adding $ 13 to $ 25 to your bill every month , according to CR.
How to avoid commissions? Take your latest bill and call your cable company to clarify any additional fees. Ask them to charge for items you don’t use. You can also request a less complete package of services.
If that doesn’t work, another option is to cut the cable completely and rely on streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and network add-ons, although these prices are constantly on the rise.
If you cut the cord, you can also try an antenna that receives broadcast channels such as ABC, CBS, and NBC, depending on where you live. You can check your zip code here to see how good your reception is.
