Update Your Phone’s Fingerprint Lock Without Special Software

The average person uses only 10 percent of their finger strength when opening their phone. It doesn’t mean anything, but you have to teach your phone more than one fingerprint. Try these three updates to make fingerprint recognition easier on your phone.

Add more fingerprints

In iOS, you can add multiple fingers. I use both my index fingers and thumbs, so I can easily unlock the phone both in my hand and on a flat surface. (I leave my other fingers unrecognized, so I can press the Home button with my middle finger to see the lock screen without unlocking.)

Add someone else’s fingerprint

If you and your partner have several secrets, but many reasons to use each other’s phones, add each other’s fingerprints for convenience. Add your fingerprint to your kid’s phone or even your parents’ phone. It’s easier than remembering someone else’s password.

Add the same fingerprint twice

If Touch ID rejects your finger too often, CNET suggests adding multiple copies of your fingerprint . Try adding another while your hand is wet to make it easier for you to open your phone after you shower.

We will all be forced to switch to facial recognition someday, but until then, use all your fingers to fight for digital supremacy.
