Quickly Delete Years of Facebook Posts With This Chrome Extension
When you were in college, it was cool to post a video of you standing with kegs. Now that you’ve graduated from law school and are looking for a firm to join, there isn’t much.
The smart move is to go back and make all those incriminating photos, videos, and messages private. An even smarter move? Delete them completely. While they can certainly reappear in cyberspace when you’re running for Congress, deleting posts will at least protect you from the eyes of diligent HR officials.
Going back and deleting messages one at a time can be frustrating. We recently came across a Chrome extension here at Lifehacker headquarters that can do all the dirty work for you.
An extension called Social Book Post Manager allows you to delete all of your social media posts up to a specific date, or specify the types of posts you want to delete using a word search. For example, you can search for posts containing your ex’s name or “weed.”
The tool will display all messages that match your specific criteria, and then you can choose which ones to keep and which ones to delete (or make private).
Once you’ve removed those compromising photos, it’s always a good idea to be careful about what you post online in the future. This drunk post, as funny as it is, is probably always a terrible idea.
And if you want to do the same for Twitter, there is a tool for that too .
