What’s Your Favorite Meal at the Airport?
Hello and welcome back toWhat’s Cooking? , an open thread where you can share your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes and opinions on all food related matters. Today I want to talk about food at the airport, not to be confused with food on the plane, and the places where you like to eat while traveling.
If I’m stuck at the airport, I usually take the opportunity to eat something really terrible for me, like a vat of red beans and Popeye rice or a giant cinnabon. But if you travel frequently, overeating fast food won’t help. Luckily, these friendly pilots (who travel quite a lot) have a few recommendations for their favorite lunch at the airport:
- Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL): Delta Captain Walter Judy orders luffa (vegetable and meat wrapper) from Garbanzo Mediterranean Fresh during short stops.
- Portland International Airport (PDX): Portland Airport has it all, from trendy donut shops and food vans to oyster bars and morels, but Alaska Airlines pilot Susan Sherman loves having a hearty and nutritious treat! A bowl from Cafe Yumm! That boasts rice, protein of your choice, vegetables and (of course) Yumm! sauce.
- International Airport San Francisco (SFO): Atlas Air pilot Starr Bloom loves to combine Blue Bottle coffee and bread to leaven Boudin then Bakery is .
- William P. Hobby Airport in Houston (HOU): Southwest Airlines captain Keith Koneby swears that Pappasito Cantina is one of the best places to buy tacos in town.
Of course, these are just four airports out of many, and I want to hear where you like to eat on your flight, as well as the best dining options at your local airport, and the best food you’ve ever eaten on a flight. Aside from Popeye’s and Cinnabon, I also never miss a chance to eat Chick-fil-A, but I always try to distract myself from the fact that I’m at the airport instead of eating something hearty.
