Ease of Falling With This Fig and Ginger
Happy weekend and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This week we are ditching summer skins and moving into cooler weather with very ripe figs and spicy ginger. (Adding ginger to a smoothie is the best I can do to add pumpkin spice to it.)
In terms of harvest, figs always seem to be the last hurray of summer. Their season is short, but the joy they bring is eternal. Adriatic figs so sweet that it prompted a cute grocer describe it as a “natural donut with jelly” that at best was a hyperbolic – where the dough? – but gives you an idea of the essence. When combined with strong bourbon and strong ginger beer, a strong sweetness is obtained. It is also very beautiful. To make it yourself, you will need:
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 2 fresh Adriatic figs
- Your Favorite Ginger Beer Made with Real Ginger
Chop the figs and toss them into a bourbon shaker. To consign the figs to oblivion. Add ice, shake bourbon until cool, and strain into ice-filled lowball through a fine mesh sieve. Add a few ounces of ginger beer to fill it up, and garnish with a nice slice of figs if you’re planning on using Instagram (to compete with all pumpkin spice lattes).
