Don’t Fall for the Latest Facebook “Hack” Hoax

I first saw this at the end of last week: A friend from college posted something about how she got a message that a friend received a friend request from her from a fake account that this friend supposedly ignored, but she should “Check” her account. ”He also recommends forwarding the message to everyone you know and gives instructions on how to do it.

While this is certainly what happens on Facebook, chances are good that what you receive is the same message your friend received, sent to everyone on his friend list. A message they liked from another friend who did the same

Do not do this.

A good way to find out if it is actually a fake that you are trying to steal all of your friends is to simply look up your name. If you see someone there, you can click the “Report this profile” button on the fake account page to report it to Facebook. If everything works as expected, the dummy account should be closed within 24 hours.

If you do see a fake, then it’s time to just post something on your wall and tell your friends what happened. You don’t need to spam everyone. If you see that some of your friends are already friends with the fake you, contact them privately and let them know they’ve been tricked.
