Send Authors Thank You Letters This Holiday Season
When it comes to content, there is a wealth embarrassment these days. Countless podcasts, TV shows, newsletters, magazines, traditional media, YouTube series, Instagram stories and more vie for our attention as well as our subscription money. While many of us would like to donate $ 5 a month or whatever small amount the creators ask for, we often don’t or cannot.
If you’re enjoying a certain podcast or newsletter in particular, or enjoying a certain artist’s Instagram that you don’t pay for, consider sending a thank you letter to the creators this holiday season. This can be a short email or Facebook post. Even DM on Twitter is something. Editor-in-chief Melissa Kirsch says she recently sent a fan letter to the creator of the Checker Plus Chrome extension. If you like something, please let the creator know.
Another option is to leave a review. As our health editor Beth Skorecki reminded me, algorithms favor podcasts and books with a lot of reviews – if you want to help one of your favorites, please give them a positive review. You will help more people discover and appreciate what you love.
And of course, share what you love everywhere. Recently, I was particularly struck by this episode of ” Awful, thanks for the question . “ Some of my other favorite podcasts are Forever 35 , Hurry Slowly , Longform , My Favorite Murder , Pop Culture Happy Hour , The Dream, and Unspooled . They added immense pleasure to me and did not cost me a cent. (I make donations to several different places and subscribe to some news reports.) I look forward to the newsletter Dabbler with the New Territories, as well as Jocelyne K. Gley and Austin Sekina also .
There are tons of other things that I take for granted. This holiday season, I want to thank those who make them.
