Fuel Your Thanksgiving Wheezes With a Drunken Cousin

Happy weekend everyone, and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This week we are making a cocktail that will help spark a hilarious political debate that is sure to take place this coming Thursday – what I call “Drunken Cousin.”

Created by Dan Casto of Portland’s Double Dragon (named after me), this drink is an Old Tom G&T with a slight seasonal pear brandy flavor. Like me, it’s a little sparkling, a little bitter, and goes well with a cheese casserole. A rounder, more botanical gin complements the pear brandy, while the tonic is sweet. (Use a good tonic for this – I like the Indian Fever Tree tonic.) To make this yourself, you will need:

  • 1 1/2 ounce Old Tom gin
  • 1/2 ounce pear brandy
  • Tonic

Combine the gin and brandy in a highball or ice-filled wine glass and stir a little. Sprinkle tonic on top, garnish with a strip of lemon zest if you like, and get ready to talk politics with your drunk uncles or just hang out in the break room with your other cool (also drunk) cousins.
