Removing the Seeds of Tiny Zucchini With a Spoonful of Grapefruit
I like a little squash. They look like decorative pumpkins but can be eaten, which is an improvement. But their small size can make seed removal difficult, and the smooth edge of a conventional spoon does not have enough scraping power to effectively remove sticky threads and seeds. This is why I turn to the grapefruit spoon.
In truth, I use this spoon for pumpkin much more often than for grapefruit. Its serrated edges remove the slippery underside of the pumpkin in the most expedient way, and the pointed tip is great for penetrating ridges and edges to get every little strand leaving you nothing but a squash perfect for filling . (For large pumpkins, use a cheap metal measuring cup with very thin edges.)
