Download Music From Free Music Archive Before It Stops

Back in 2009, the Free Music Archive was founded as a place where artists could share their music and listeners could legally download songs. Now it turns off, so now is the time to download any tunes from the service that you would like to have in your personal library.

If you’re unfamiliar, The Free Music Archive describes itself as “an interactive library of high quality, legal audio, hosted by WFMU , America’s most famous free-form radio station.”

The music service will currently close its virtual doors on November 16, according to The Verge . However, he is in talks with four organizations that are interested in taking over the project, so the shutdown may or may not occur. If this does happen, it is hoped that, by staying longer, the site will be able to back up its collection to archive.org and the Wayback Machine.

These backups will allow you to access the music currently in the archive, but this collection will not be updated.

Music on the site ranges from blues and jazz to electronica and hip-hop. You won’t find many of the top 40 on the site, but you can find some great songs and they are free. It’s definitely worth taking a look at before it fades away.
