Celebrate Father’s Day With Bobby Burns

Happy weekend and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This Sunday is Father’s Day, and my dad ( as always ) wants me to “write more about Scotch”, so we’ll fulfill his wishes with this slightly trendy, herbal variation of Rob Roy.

Of course, you don’t have to be a father (or any father) to enjoy this drink. Sweet vermouth – buy Carpano Antica if you really love your dad – and herbal benedictine balances out the smoky scotch perfectly. Enjoying a cigar (or pipe filled with Captain Black tobacco) is recommended, but not required. To make it you will need:

  • 2 ounce blended whiskey
  • 30 g sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce benedictine

Add everything in an ice-filled stirring glass (or a pint of glass) and stir until well chilled. (Do not be afraid of dilution; hydration is important.) Strain into a glass compartment and do not decorate with anything; your dad probably thinks the side dish is stupid. (In most cases, he is not wrong.)
