Manage Electoral Anxiety Better With the Politics Package of This Meditation App

Regardless of your political affiliation, you can probably agree on one thing: politics has become stressful.

If the mid-term elections (which you’ve already voted for, or which you’ve voted for, right ?!) have made your life a little more stressful than usual, the Headspace app might be able to help. This week, the meditation app started offering a new free Political Pack of meditations to help you cope with this.

None of the exercises are explicitly political or geared towards a specific political position. Instead, they offer ways to deal with some of the feelings that might arise when reading political news. Here’s a rundown of the individual exercises in the app :

Relieve tension

Political situations can make you feel angry, empty, or fearful. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try one of these 3-Minute SOS Stress Relief Meditations now:

Feeling overwhelmed (take a step back and take a breath)

Losing your composure (to get rid of frustration)

Panic (to restore calm)

Difficult conversations

Difficult conversations can arise with loved ones, friends, or strangers – in person or on social media – so consider these meditations as a potential salve before or after any particularly difficult conversation:

Breathe mini (for expanding the mind)

Refresh mini (to flush out the accumulated voltage)

Lonely difficult conversation (to encourage less reactive thinking)

A shift in point of view

Rethinking our approach to politics can be helpful. These 10 Day Meditation Courses are not intended to change your mind, but to help you relate to stress in a different way:

Patience (to help you recognize impatience and let it go)

Transforming anger (to channel it in a healthier way)

The purpose of each is to help you cope with the situation in front of you and help you relieve stress and reboot. It will not make you forget the catastrophe our country is becoming, but it could potentially help you cope a little better.
