11 Trans Comedians Worth Seeing If You’re Tired of Dave Chappel
Dave Chappel’s latest (and supposedly final) Netflix special, Intimacy , has once again sparked controversy over the comedian’s determination to continue pushing boundaries with transphobia and homophobia . (Bold!) If it sounds familiar, it’s because it is . In response, a special several trance employees at Netflix publicly called out and cut ties with the company .
This backlash is the last piece of the great cancellation irony. Once again, the loudest opponents of the so-called cancellation culture are getting the opportunity to call themselves martyrs of the sold-out comedy series produced by the most popular and powerful streaming services. Meanwhile, many of the comedians who actually represent the individuals being bullied don’t have the same access to the spotlight. Maybe this is what a true cancellation culture looks like; he searches for “trans comics to watch on Netflix” and finds no new faces to watch, but instead finds results pages about Dave Chappel’s material. Who is really in danger of silence?
Rather than fueling a transphobic fire, here are some of our favorite transgender, genderquist, and hilarious comedians to have on your radar (if they haven’t already).
