For Tinder supporters and those who have been smugly connected for the past few years, Hinge is a dating app that seems to be aimed at people looking for relationships, not dating. You know, those for whom a good date is a bowl of burritos and hibiscus tea under fluorescent lights, say, drunkenness with any sane person within five miles.
If you are already a Hinge member, you will receive an email with a code for your BOGO deal. If you are not a member, supposedly you need to download an app ( Android , iPhone ) and create an account to get the code. Most likely, this will involve answering some questions about your height, work, obligatory things, and abandoning the deal. Whether you lie about it or upload your photo when you hit your desired weight and had hair, it’s up to you. You get free stuff anyway.
We saw some interesting statistics in the press release for the event, for example: “Of all the Chipotle ingredients mentioned in our conversations with Hinge, talking about chorizo led to more dating.” This shows a very specific monitoring of your “private” conversations going on in the dating app. Of course, you knew that you were just a statistician, that tech companies analyze your every online ( and offline ) move, package your data, and sell it to the highest bidder. I’m curious how the data scientists at Hinge determine that you actually went on a date after talking about Chipotle ingredients.
I would also like to see the trading decks that Hinge collects for different companies that cut your DMs to close the deal.
