How to Complete a Pay-in-Advance Chain (Nice)

This is the time for charity events, and if you find yourself in line, you may be caught in the pay-up-front chain. You were told that the person in front of you paid for your order. And if you feel uncomfortable or guilty – after all, you placed an order and you know you have money – you can just pay for the car behind you, and now that’s their problem. Fortunately, there is a way to break the chain without worrying about the jerk.

Pay-in-advance networks make life difficult for the person working with the cash register who is not getting paid enough anyway. So if it happens at Starbucks or anywhere else with a tipping jar, grab a free drink and then put the money you were going to pay in the jar.

No tip jar? At McDonald’s, put your extra money in the change bin for the Ronald McDonald House . If there is no convenient container for your money, or if you pay by card and the system cannot add a tip, set your phone to remind you to donate to your local food bank when you get home. For the price of one person ordering coffee or a sandwich, the food bank can provide multiple meals for hungry families.
