Dream Text Messages Are Real, so Keep Your Phone Away From Bed.

You already know that you shouldn’t sleep next to your phone because it greatly affects your sleep schedule . Here’s another reason: you might write stupid messages to your friends and not remember the conversation in the morning.

“Sleep texting occurs when a person responds or sends a text message electronically while in a dream state,” Villanova University researchers write in a recent study of college students’ sleep habits. A buzzing notification can wake you up enough for you to grab your phone and send a response without waking up completely. In a sample of college students, 25% said they wrote to someone in their dreams; 72 percent of them did not remember this in the morning.

The authors call text messages in dreams “more embarrassing than dangerous,” but it all depends on who you end up texting and what you say. Even more disturbing is the fact that text notifications generally wake people up, interrupting their sleep. So if you need to write before bed, set it on charger if you can’t reach it from your bed. Or at least put it on do not disturb mode .
