Taking Part in Operation Santa Just Got Easier This Year
Every year since 1912, the United States Postal Service has contributed to bringing the best Christmas ever to children across the country. Operation Santa went digital in 2017 with an online trial in New York – and it was so successful that they expanded the program to five more cities this season.
Potential Santas in Washington , Pittsburgh , Indianapolis , New York , San Diego , Austin, and Phoenix can now read and receive emails through the Deliver Cheer website . It’s very simple: just select your location, browse through the emails and select one or more you want to reply to with gifts and / or handwritten letters. If your city is not participating in the online program, don’t worry! You can still participate. Visit Be An Elf, a children’s charity that supports Operation Santa but is not affiliated with the USPS, for a longer list of participating cities , including Los Angeles , San Francisco , Chicago , Boston , Cleveland and Philadelphia . Just be sure to double check the list before heading to the post office: some branches have an open door policy for reading letters during December, while others restrict Santa Claus business transactions to certain hours on certain days.
Unfortunately, Operation Santa is not available in all regions, but more and more cities are added to the list every year. If you want to see this program in your city, you can leave a request here .
